2. Epping To Wisemans Ferry
Within Metropolitan Sydney rare convict remnants remain to this day. Follow the Convict Trail from Epping to Wisemans Ferry be sure to make time to call into the following key locations.
As the road makes its way north, be sure to stop in at the stone causeway crossing at Devlins Creek, located opposite Candy Avenue in Epping.

Heritage Park Castle Hill has a colourful history and was the site of one of the lesser known Government Farms from 1801-1811. In 1804 the site was also the staging point for the first-ever convict rebellion on Australian soil.
Roughley House and the Sydney Visitor Interpretation Centre at Dural enable visitors to learn more about the Great North Road and life along the road. The Convict memorial features the names recovered so far of the convicts who worked on the construction of the Great North Road. Be sure to tour Roughley House, built in 1856 and now a museum complete with the original family contents.

Hawkins Lookout provides excellent views over the Hawkesbury River and is the perfect place to capture the Hawkesbury River in all its glory. Named after Freddie Hawkins, the local postman who use to take visitors there to enjoy the view.
At the bottom of the hill is the village of Wisemans Ferry where Australia’s oldest ferry service has operated since 1827. Wisemans Ferry is home to Cobham Hall, home to Solomon Wiseman and built in 1826.
